Our brand / Celler Batea
We would love to be able to say that with this symbol representing the identity of Celler Batea we have encapsulated the well-known saying: “One picture is worth a thousand words”. What we can say with absolute certainty is that the symbol is the fruit of profound reflection about our own roots.
During these reflections one word constantly appeared; one single word which defines and sums up the essence of Celler Batea: duality.
This characteristic, duality, is manifested throughout our land and culture in the Garnacha grape – a variety capable of producing both richly dark red wines and sparklingly pale white wines. They speak of the Terra Alta, home of red and white Garnacha.
Duality is also exhibited by our climate, a mixture of both Continental and Mediterranean, within which our vines grow and our people live. They too have a dual responsibility: to work their vineyards and to decide exactly what Celler Batea is and will be.
and whenever he sees her, she comes with tears falling.
Our climate
Our climate is determined by the land and by the sea. It is both Continental and Mediterranean – cold winters and dry hot summers, with local winds playing a key role.
The Cierzo, a cold wind from the north, blows strongly in winter and spring, helping to keep our vineyards healthy. And on summer days the Garbí, a soft sea breeze, brings with it the freshness and moisture of the Mediterranean, encouraging the growth of well-balanced grapes with fine aromas.

Our terroir
Medium textured soils, rich in lime and sand, with low fertility, shallow – all control naturally the vigour of the vines.
This description applies to most of the land in the Terra Alta. Some subtle variations do, however, exist – and these variations bring different ripening cycles and nuances of taste and aroma to the grapes in our vineyards. These vineyards are mainly on natural terraces facing different points of the compass and at heights between 400 and 600 metres above sea level.

Our Vineyards
In the 11th century the word “Garnacha” appeared for the first time in a legal document and this indicates how important this grape variety already was in our land at that time. Since then ten centuries of adaptation, evolution and cultivation have placed red and white Garnacha at the heart of the Celler Batea vineyards.
However, it is not only red and white Garnacha vines which flourish in our vineyards. We also grow other red grape varieties such as Cariñena and Tempranillo – and in recent years we have cultivated small quantities of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines. Other white grape varieties grown by us include Macabeo and Chardonnay. All of these contribute to the depth and complexity of our wines.
The core of our vineyards covers 250 hectares, giving average yields of less than 6,000 kilos per hectare, older goblet vineyards coexisting with high vine density trellis plantations – this is where Celler Batea wines come from.
