Do you know what flowering and budbreaking are in spring?
They are two vital processes that occur during spring.
At this time of year our vines are in full sprouting.
Budbreaking is the process by which plants begin to generate new shoots or buds. After winter, when temperatures increase and days lengthen, plants react to environmental stimuli and begin to produce new growth structures. Shoots can arise from existing buds on the vine. During budbreaking, plants use the energy stored during the winter to fuel the growth of new stems, leaves and branches.
In Batea we have crops of almond and olive trees, which these days are in the flowering stage.
Flowering is the process in which plants develop and produce flowers. During spring, many plants perceive changes in day length and temperature as signals to begin the flowering process. This process is crucial for the reproduction of many plant species, since flowers allow the formation of seeds that will disperse to give rise to new plants in the future.
Budbreaking and flowering are two fundamental aspects of the life cycle of plants during spring, which allow them to grow, develop and reproduce in response to seasonal changes in the environment.
